Job summary

The Industrial Relations Officer facilitates sound industrial relations management by providing front line support on HR related matters at the branch. The position provides advice, information and implements industrial relations and employment policies in the best interests of the company to drive fair, respectful, diverse and high performance culture.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement employee relations, social and welfare activities, and employee support programs at the branch to create a conducive and respectful workplace and good working relationship between employees;
  • Facilitate communication by providing guidance and consultation regarding problem solving, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, litigation avoidance and strive to resolve internal conflict informally through appropriate conflict management and mediation techniques at the branch level;
  • Investigate and recommend actions for branch staff grievances and complaints of harassment and discrimination
  • Develop cordial relations with the Shop Stewards at the branch;
  • Responsible for discipline management at the branch as per the discipline policy;
  • Monitor staff employment details and ensure that all branch staff have valid contracts at any one time and that their job descriptions are up to date;
  • Leave and attendance management at the branch level;
  • Maintain human resource files and records in accordance with legal requirements and company policies and procedures;
  • Prepare and submit monthly and year-end reports regarding terminations, transfers, and new hires;
  • Coordinate staff recruitment and selection process at the branch;
  • Provide day-to-day benefits administration services and acts as the key point of contact for the medical scheme. Assist employees with enrollment, access and claim issues as well as final withdrawal from the schemes;
  • Support and coordinate annual staff appraisal, staff training and ensure training records are up to date

  • Complete and accurate employee data in HRIS.

Education Background.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human resources, Social Sciences, general management or business administration.
  • Higher National Diploma in Human Resources Management; member of IHRM Kenya
  • At least four (4) years’ experience managing HR processes in a labour intensive and Unionisable environment
  • Exposure to employee relations in a labour intensive and unionised environments
  • Working knowledge in application of labour/ employment laws, employment relations law, employee manuals and handbooks
